Extrusion blow moulding is a method of manufacturing hollow thermoplastic parts. The well-known objects of blow moulding are bottles, barrels, cans, boxes and containers for all packaged foods, beverages, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and daily necessities. Large blow-moulded containers are usually used for packaging chemical products, lubricants and bulk materials. Other blow-moulded products include balls, bellows and toys. For the automotive industry, fuel tanks, car shock absorbers, seat backs, central brackets and armrests and pillow covers are all blow-moulded. For machinery and furniture manufacturing, blow-moulded parts include shells, door frames, racks, pots or boxes with an open surface.
The most common material for blow-extruded plastics is high density polyethylene, which is used in most milk bottles. Other polyolefins are often processed by blow moulding. According to its use, styrene polymers, polyvinyl chloride, polyester, polyurethane, polycarbonate and other thermoplastic plastics can also be used for blow moulding.
Recently, engineering plastics have been widely accepted in the automotive industry. Material selection is based on mechanical strength, weatherability, electrical properties, optical properties and other properties.
